How can you provide these trips for free? |
To help offset the cost of providing this web site to you for free we have taken on sponsors who place advertisements at the top of each page. We review each sponsor to make sure that they are family-friendly and serve the education community. If you are looking for educational information, service or products, please visit our sponsors first. It is through their generosity that this web site can be provided to you free of cost.
Additionally, we offer the book "Virtual Field Trips: An Online Study Guide to the Internet" by Felice Gerwitz for $18.95 (plus S&H). The book has all the Field Trip instructions plus information such as how to use the Internet, tutorials, keywords and search engines, downloading tools, net etiquette, Internet safety and much more. If you are interested in more information about the book just Click Here. |
I’m not sure where to begin.
Begin with the "Tour Guide" page. There you will find how field trips work and important information about using and navigating this site.
How do I know what field trips are available?
The "Trip List" page show all available field trips and "Categories" pages show the trips available by category. Additionally, each category is listed in the Navigation bar on each page. The Trips will be updated from time to time and more will be added each month. You may want to check back frequently to see if there are new ones of interest to you.
While on a field trip one of the links didn’t work.
The Internet is constantly changing. Some links will not work one day, and work fine the next. If a link does not work, continue on with your trip, skipping that particular page.
As a Parent/Teacher/Caregiver I'm concerned about safety on the Internet.
Each segment of the Virtual Field Trip has been thoroughly reviewed and is, as of this writing, 'kid safe.' Web sites can and do change frequently; it is your responsibility to insure that all material on web sites visited are suitable for viewing by children. As in any educational setting, it is highly recommended that adult supervision be present.
The Field Trip is wider than my screen.
We recommend a minimum screen resolution of 800x600 with 1024x768 for optimal viewing. This is only practical on monitors that are 17-inches diagonal or larger. If your screen size or resolution is less, we recommend that you print out all the instructions, or buy the Virtual Field Trips Book, and adjust the left navigation/instruction frame to optimize it based on your browser/monitor size. This will help eliminate scrolling to accommodate the on-screen instructions. However, some of the pages you visit may still require scrolling due to their size/design over which we have no control.
